Lake trout

Lake Trout (Lake Charr)

Average: 10lbs.    Trophy: 25 - 30 lbs

Also known as Touladi, the lake trout is Rupert River’s specialty catch. Wherever your guide takes you, you will most likely encounter lake trout. At the beginning of the season, this species is found in shallow and calm waters, or at the foot of rapids. Towards the end of summer, the lake trout resides in the river’s depths. In this case, it is preferable to fish with a sounding line and lead (plummet).

All lake trout catches are quality catches,  as opposed to lake trout found in other habitats, the Rupert River lake trout’s meat is a soft shade of pink and is extremely tasty. You will get to sample lake trout during “Shore lunches,” which are prepared by our First Nations guides.

Walleye

The Yellow Walleye

Average: 2-3 lbs.    Trophy: 8 lbs

This species is abundant throughout the Rupert River. Early in the morning or at sunset, the yellow walleye can be found in the river’s depths or in areas characterized by a rugged topography, where forage fish is abundant. Whether you decide to troll or use a fishing spoon, jig, or trotline, Rupert River’s yellow walleyes are none too picky about the lures that are presented to them.

Speckled trout

The Speckled Trout (Brook Charr)

Average: 2 lbs.    Trophy: 6-8 lbs

The best moment to capture a speckled trout is at the end of summer, when this species moves into the Rupert River rapids to spawn. To catch this fish is physically demanding, the speckled trout must be captured in white water. At the beginning of June, the speckled trout can be caught by trolling in calmer waters. In this context, speckled trout catches are also worth the effort.

Pike

The Northern Pike

Average: 10lbs.    Trophy: 25 lbs

You will be amazed by Rupert River’s largest predator. Our guides will bring you to fishing spots where this species abounds and to spots where you are likely to reel in a big one. Try out your topwater fishing lures in shallow bays, and you will certainly embark on an exhilarating adventure.
